Community Update – Police Awareness of Begging Outside Morrisons Daily
Kent Police are aware of a male who has been regularly seen begging outside Morrisons Daily. Local officers have spoken with him on several occasions, and we want to reassure the community that he is already receiving the appropriate support from partner agencies. While we understand that members of the public may feel concerned or sympathetic, please be assured that you should not feel pressured or obligated to provide money or assistance directly. If you have concerns, you can report them to us and we will continue to manage the situation appropriately.
Begging in a public place is considered a form of antisocial behaviour (ASB), and in some circumstances it can also constitute a criminal offence. ASB affects the quality of life for individuals and the wider community, and it is important that it is dealt with promptly and proportionately.
What is Antisocial Behaviour?
Under these headings, ASB includes 13 types of behaviour, one of which is begging, defined as anyone asking for money or charitable donations in a public place without a licence, or encouraging a child to do so. Other examples of ASB include rowdy behaviour, nuisance neighbours, street drinking, littering, misused fireworks, nuisance noise, trespassing, and vehicle‑related nuisances.
If you experience or witness antisocial behaviour, including concerns about begging, please report it so we can take the appropriate action. Your reports help us protect vulnerable people while ensuring our public spaces remain safe and welcoming for everyone. | ||
